WHY: To benefit the Nurse Educator Program & EB Registry of Dystrophic
Epidermolysis Bullosa Research Association (a non-profit organization). DebRA
supports research and provides programs and services to individuals with
Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), and their families.
EB is a genetically based disease characterized by chronic, painful blistering. With
EB, the skin and mucous membranes are so fragile that the slightest touch can
cause severe wounds - both inside and outside the body. EB affects all races,
ethnic groups and both sexes and sometime appears within a family who does not
have a history of EB. At present there is no cure, and no treatment, except daily
wound care and bandaging to prevent infection. There is a very short life span.
My granddaughter, Jennifer, died on May 18, 2005 RDEB (Recessive Dystrophis
Epidermolysis Bullosa. She lived a long time - she was 25 years old.
